Hi, I’m Dr. Michael Barrick, typically known as “Dr. Mike” at the office. For the past nineteen years, I’ve been practicing dentistry here in my hometown of Cedar City, Utah. A love of the community and its people brought me back home after dental school. I’ve loved working and living here since the moment I returned.
My philosophy is that each patient should be able to expect their dentist to possess certain characteristics:
First, a dentist should be competent. While attending Dental School at Northwestern University, I worked very hard to learn the clinical skills I knew I would need to help my future patients. As a result, I graduated in the top 5% of my class and ranked among the top 15% on the national board examinations. I have learned that consistent and dedicated effort is required to fully understand all the ways this field of medicine can help an individual. I spend many hours yearly continuing my education to insure my patients receive the most up-to-date and effective treatment.
Secondly, I believe a dentist should demonstrate integrity in his practice. I realize an individual must have complete trust that their dentist will be truthful in diagnosing and treating one’s health-care needs. I have found that the “Golden Rule” is certainly applicable in dentistry, “Treat others as you would hope to be treated yourself”. My patient’s needs are always the top priority.
Finally, a dentist should honestly care about his patients. Some of my best experiences are creating beautiful smiles and observing how that helps my patients find new confidence and self-esteem.
Helping my patients overcome dental anxieties caused by poor dental experiences from their past is particularly rewarding. Gentle treatment, a comfortable visit, a prettier smile, and a healthier individual are my goals for every patient that I am privileged to help.
